1991 Smudge Pot

91 Saints Beat Bearcats

September 27, 1991

San Dimas showed poise and patience Friday night which was enough to lift the Saints to a 13-3 win over their rival Bonita, in the 20th annual Smudge Pot. With a large crowd in the San Dimas stadium, senior halfback, Sean Evans makes a 3-yard touchdown with 1:35 minutes remaining securing the win for San Dimas. Bonita fell to 0-3. The first drive from San Dimas reached the Bearcats 10 yard line. Evans’ fumble was recovered by Bonita’s Dan Rivera. Then Senior Running back Darrell Kizzee raced 90 yards for an apparent touchdown but offsetting penalties nullified the play. Kizzee finished with 101 yards on 13 carries and caught two passes for 34 yards. Randy Bolognia broke a scoreless tie just 24 seconds before halftime. His 6 yard run capped a 12-play, 82 yard drive from the Saints. San Dimas led at the half 6-0. Bearcats were whistled for having 12 players on the field wiping out Glenn miller’s 8 yard option pass to Alan Alaniz. The Saints then responded and did a 12-play drive and Seth Turnstall’s 32 yard field goal missed wide right. The saint’s drive took up 7 minutes. The Saints kept the ball away for a long time securing the win. San Dimas was able to keep the ball away from Bonita thanks to their quarterback, Junior Dustin Hall. This returned the Smudge Pot trophy to San Dimas for the third year in a row.
